2024 CT5-V Blackwing
Checking in with you all here to see who has installed this on a 2024 CT5-V BW.

I'd like to purchase this hood and do the installation myself. My worry is with this mention on their site about Hood Pins Warning: "All hoods require hood pins for safety reasons. Anderson Composites will not be liable for any damages to the product and the vehicle caused by not properly using hood pins."

I certainly hope they are not meaning that I'd have to drill holes into the front of the hood to install pins and retainers...

For those that have installed this hood, did you follow any write-up or video to help with a successful installation? Lessons learned?

Appreciate any details you can help me with.

Haven’t installed one on my BW but have in previous vehicles. Required no, highly recommended yes. Especially at high speed and since it looks like you track. Relying solely on the latch adhered to the CF/resin with high air pressure load is a gamble.

There are some really nice low profile systems like Quik-latch Quik-Latch® QL-38 Low Profile Hood Pin Kit - Black, 1.75 — some come with lock, some without, but provide significant retaining power.

I know some guys would just roll with a secondary hood latch cable and no locking pins.

EDIT: One thing I did forget to mention but just popped in my noggin. Once you identify the drill spot (take some masking tape and place underside of the hood where the pin will approx hit, then put some paint/sharpie marker on the pin and place the hood down transferring the mark), was that when you go to drill the pilot holes through the hood, make sure you drill them at the angle the pin will enter the hood, NOT the angle of the hood. As you lower the hood down you will see that the pin will be at about ~90 degrees from the frame rail but your hood will have a downward slope.

Bungee cords are popular on multiple cars I see driving every day.
Thats the hood that should have been OEM for us.

These hoods seem better built that any other CF hoods I’ve had on my other car. I’ve had Seibon on my 240sx and Carbon Creations (trash) on my old C6z. Never installed hood pins and never had any issue. I feel like the statement they make is more to cover their ass for just in case. I’ve hit 180-185 on this car with this hood and no indication of delaminating on the seem and the striker is solidly mounted in.

what are the weight savings?
Honestly, not much. Stock hoods are aluminum and fairly light to begin with. More aesthetics since I doubt it helps with aerodynamics.

One thing I noticed was, the car actually runs cooler when the vent closed. These hoods has a screwed in/removable water tray, taking that off actually ran the coolant temp slightly warmer. So I just left mine on, cut a small section on the front of the tray to let water drain out of it after washing the car.

Also, the vent isnt the prettiest underneat. Its an aftermaket vent with chicken wire held in by bend clips. Typical aftermarket hood thing. The tray hides that hot mess.

The hood hinges threw me off for a second thinking they were some fancy aftermarket. Nope, just OEM. The contrast against the CF really makes them stand out, in a good way.

The holes on the hinge are pretty large, made it a shit load easy to align this hood. Even then, its well built and barely had to really adjust it. Didnt even had to mess around with the latch to match up with the new striker. Just messed with bump bushing to even out the front edges of the hood.
They (someone) needs to come up with a better , aggressive hood design for the Blackwings. Like I've said in the past. These cars look like a Honda Accord.
Funny thing is there are a few different aftermarket hood designs for these cars now.

Anderson Composite: 3rd gen CTSV styled hood, they copied the dip lines on the hood and the vents.

Savage/Ebay/Alibaba: V2 Style Hood, they copied aftermarket design hoods from the 2nd generation V, with the 2 heat extractors on the side. There's a forged carbon version of this hood in Ebay/China.

EOS: Similar style as above, but added some half circle dips in the rear and raised the side extractors. No idea what its for.

Robot Craftsman: "Unique" design, a little aggressive for me honestly. Not a fan of the whole scoop design, prefer extractor style vents.

New Ebay/China Hood: First time Ive seen this honestly after looking up the hoods above.

I've fitted fiberglass hoods to cars in the past, and they always required a ton of sanding, leveling, body filler, etc. to fit correctly and look nice.

Do these CF hoods fit perfect right out of the box?

C'mon.. they look NOTHING like an accord......

... they look like Nissan Altimas!

Just my opinion but I hate all of these except the ones modeled after the V3. I loved my white V3 with the black CF vent.

In my experience with the Anderson Composite ones, yes. Minimal adjustment, had the hood swapped out within 15-20 mins.

I’ve had more expensive hood, like Carbon Creation on my old C6z, that fitted like absolute ass. And those cost more than these.

I decided to paint the side just cuz it felt a lil too ricey for my liking. Maybe I’m just getting old. All black just stuck out too much to me.

Yep, I loved my V3 too. Just got bored with the auto and missed my rowing gears in my old C6z.

I didn't realize that there were even that many on the market for our cars. Thank you for posting them up. So it seems we don't need to install hood pins as the AC CF Hood comes with the hood latch hardware already.

So the hood you have photographed is the Anderson Composites CF Hood? If so, you didn't have to install Hood Pins? There website has a warning that we are to use them. I don't want to purchase a Hood like this for the price and then have to pay more to have Hood Pins installed. I definitely will pay to have it painted though.
