Hey guys,

I am curious if anyone has experience with different tires on their BW. I've run the rear tires down to 3/32 and the fronts are about 5/32 so I am looking at doing all 4 tires (just crossed 8k miles and no track days). The car is a semi-daily driver but I have other vehicles for bad weather/cold.

I do really like the TPC-spec PS4S and don't really have too many complaints (I run the PS4S on 2 other sportscars currently and am a fan). However, I also like to experiment with tires and my eyes are drawn to the Falken Azenis RT660s on sale at Tirerack. I loved the older Azenis 615s on my Evos in years past and the idea of an even stickier tire for the BW is tempting. I know they would be noisier and stiffer, but I am fine with that for the most part.

Continental also offers their excellent ECS02 for our cars so that is another one to consider. I have run the Yokohama Apex 601s on a Civic Type R and was not impressed with their cornering grip, although they rode nicely and were quiet; the Potenza Sports on the same car were flipping incredible so maybe I will consider those, too, but they wear very quickly when driven hard.

I know the TPC-spec Michelins have a lot of SportCup2 goodness in them, which makes them pretty sticky to begin with, and I thought they worked pretty well at Spring Mountain even on 100+ degree days. for a street tire.

Thoughts? Thank you.

GM spent a lot of time and went through numerous renditions to finally arrive at that TPC spec. they even removed the rear rim guard to give that much extra little bit of space for suspension travel. all of the elctro mechanical systems were programmed and optimized given that tire too.

I ordered a set of Nitto Invo tires to use as all seasons. It gets cold where I spend half my time up in the Sierra Nevadas. I’ve woken up to snow on the ground in August even.

I’ve also been told that the Nitto NT555 is a great tire that grips like a mofo… but I’ve never used em personally.

I am at 28k miles and getting ready to replace all of my originals from 10/2021. I considered others, but am going with the PS4S. They have been a great tire IMO. However, I don't track so probably something to consider.

When it’s new shoes time I’ll go back with Michelin. Probably OEM. Big fan of Michelin. I LOVE the Cup 2 tires, have had them on previous Z06 vettes.

Yes . . . I drive a little harder than most. I don't think I've ever gotten more than about 12k miles out of a set of performance car tires going back 20+ years. I am religious about psi, too, and don't do stationary burnouts or track days. The PS4S on my GT350R are toast with 10k miles on them currently so it looks like I will be helping to pay for my tire guy's new boat soon.

IMHO, I have three words for you......O..E..M

As above, GM worked very hard to get these tires right. Why change?

They are excellent tires from the factory. But I enjoy trying new tires, too. The fact that the tires were developed for the car doesn't mean there aren't other tires that might be better for my use case.

Agree with the strategy of trying new tires out. I'm also a fan of R888's (had them on my V3)but they are much louder tire than 4S'.

same, but even on my super cars ive replaced the factory cup 2s with 4s, would say about 90% of the dry grip, but actually can drive the car in wet or cold without a worry and they last significantly longer.

cant go wring either way

Yeah, the Cup 2's in the wet / cold...definitely not the best! I live in Texas so I don't have to worry about that too much. I purposely put the Cup 2's on my most recent Z06, but it didn't get out near enough. I'll probably go back with the 4's when it's time on the BW.

Purchased the 20" PS4's for my car from tire rack I questioned the major difference with the TPC spec 19's PS4's from factory and 20's PS4's I purchased without the TPC Spec designation and the answer from their expert was "sound deadening lining between the two" 19 TPC have it, 20 do not? That aside, tire performance was equal?

I believe, I remember reading the 5BW PS4's were engineered specifically for the BW's. Was the sound deadening the difference?

Tested the 20 Michelins and they perform just fine IMO, spirited driving non track environment.

Anybody ever run on Nitto tires? Reviews say there ultra quiet and stick like glue. Just curious if anyone here has real world experience.
Several of my local guys run Nittos 555 on their Camaros. Im about to replace stock Goodyear garbage on my 2018 2SS with the Nittos as well. So don't know personally as yet but I trust the guys running them.

When I replaced my Goodyear F1 Ultra High Performance Summer tires on my 2011 Charger R/T with the actual Road and Track Package, I replaced them with all season Nittos. Yes, very nice tires. Good in rain and cold, rode nice, quiet, but I didn't like them compared to the F1's. Those F1's stuck like glue. This was probably 10 years ago FWIW. Granted I'm comparing high performance to all seasons. I was a bit disappointed.

Were those the Invos by chance? Figure I’ll only be able to run Summer tires for a few months out of the year which is why I wanted a tire that’s safe under 40F. September through April (some years through May too) I’ll need tires safe at cold temps.

Info about the TPC-spec tires. Basically, they have some of the SportCup2 compound in the tread.

Please don't take this as me being a jerk, but Invos weren't true grippy high performance tires when they came out, what, 15+ years ago? And the 555 G2s are not particularly well respected as anything but an inexpenisve tire. The drag style 555Rs and such are supposed to be incredible in hooking up in a straight line but they have soft sidewalls (i.e. no good for handling).

I am largely content with the OE TPC-spec tires but I know the PS4S is getting long in the tooth and there are newer tires out there that might be pretty incredible, too. As I mentioned, the Potenza Sport is something I have tried in the past and was super impressed with the lateral grip, precise steering, and stiff sidewall (almost like the super 200TW style tires). But I have a feeling they wouldn't last long on a 5BW. The Yokohama AD09 is really the tire I wished they made in our sizes.
