As a newbie driver in the early 1980s, I once locked myself out of my car.
Since then I have always kept a car key on my key ring as a spare. I grabbed another key to actually drive with. I've occasionally left a key in my ignition over the ensuing decades, but always had the spare on my...
That behavior has kept me from locking myself out of my car for many decades. That said, what I am doing now is keeping the credit card sized alternate "key" in my wallet as a backup, and only grabbing the fob when driving the car.
I also found that there is a middle-ground of door automation...
Negatives
Lots of the tech feels gimmicky.
It has like 3 times the screen real estate that the Blackwing has, and shows 1/3 the info. Then again, in an EV I don't need to show oil temp, oil pressure, coolant temp, and trans temp.
The keyless entry sucks. It's either too much automation...
To get all the discounts I had to take a vehicle that was already built and assigned to Houston. My preference was the 19" wheels in the Stealth (dark) coloring, but they were not available. I had to choose between shiny 19s and dark 20s. The dark 20s look way, way better- especially with...
Picked it up today!
2025 Lucid Air Pure
Single-motor, RWD. 430 hp, 406 lb-ft.
Rated for 372 miles of range on these optional 20" wheels. It would be 420 miles on the stock 19" wheels.
Car and Driver got 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.6 seconds.
4500-ish lbs.
I want to thank everyone who contributed to answering my questions and giving feedback.
After much consideration, I decided getting a 3rd vehicle at this point in my life was absolutely dumb. Especially one from basically a startup that delivered only 10k cars in its 3rd year of production...
Toyota didn't admit it had a problem until the engine had been in production for 2 years; years that were full of problems for owners. Some owners experienced an engine failure, then had their engine replaced, and then had their replacement engine fail. The forums were full of these stories...
They will absolutely hard sell you on dealer add-ons at closing. Window replacement insurance, all kinds of stuff.
Just stay firm with saying "No". Do not waver. Don't get upset. Just power through it.
Yeah, the standard for these 14-50 outlets is 50A breakers for the 40A continuous load.
In one video I saw online, a woman's professionally-installed 14-50 was a non-EV-rated outlet on a 60A breaker. The wiring was also of a type that was not recommended, but the terminology they used was...
Yeah, a high quality outlet is needed. And besides that, the installation itself needs to be top notch.
People have had problems from the outlet not being up to the task, being put on the wrong breakers (60A vs 50A), and the wrong gauge wiring being used. Basically, practices that were...
That is one of the reasons I want a quote from Lucid's recommended vendor.
That window/roof is not available on the Pure, and is now optional on the Touring. And, yeah: Do. Not. Want.
I don't think anyone would argue with any of that.
That said, really fast charging, like the "200 miles...
Even at a $3.5k difference I was leaning towards the Pure. It has the longest range and felt the best to drive. And, if I'm honest, I didn't want my EV to be faster than my Blackwing, LOL.
I've found out that the Pure is not just a Touring minus one motor. Apparently Lucid took some...
UPDATE
All the incentives that were in effect last month (for Pure and Touring) are still in effect for March. BUT: they tossed another $2,500 on the Pure, so the Pure vs Touring difference is back up to $6k.
The extra incentive lowers the cost of what I already wanted by about $65/month...
I'll make sure my car only breaks down during Winter. ;)
Status on this, for the curious:
I got an estimate for installing a 240V 50A NEMA 14-50 outlet (dryer outlet) in my garage. That outlet would let me charge at up to 40 amps continuously, which I estimate is about 30 miles of range...
Now there's something I had not thought enough about.
I've been playing with an idea of a move from Houston to Albuquerque. Nearest service center to ABQ is 429 miles away in Phoenix.
Move would be 2.5 years down the road, at the earliest. So that's not necessarily a deal-breaker...
