Cadillac Smart Driver and Privacy Concerns

I got this email on Thursday, which I assume is related to this.
Has anyone figured out where the location services privacy setting is?

Here’s a screenshot from the OnStar permissions info page. Total BS

If my insurance goes way up, it is likely that the Blackwing will leave the stable and I will never buy another GM car again. I hope this information reaches the public and GM sales decline. This practice by GM is not acceptable.

If you buy a recent model year car you’ll just get screwed by some other company. Best to buy a used car before cats came into play.

Never received my LexisNexis ordered 5 weeks ago, so trying again. However, just received my insurance renewal, on average my rates went up 26%. Zero accidents, zero tickets, exceptional credit and both of us are over 50.
Interesting enough, I have several cars and our 26k mile 2013 Explorer went up 30% (highest increase), where my 22 5BW went up 24% (lowest out of all my cars). I can guarantee the 2013 Explorer has zero internet connection other than when our phone is in the car. 🤔 It’s my wife’s grocery & doctors appt car.
The car that travels the most yearly, my 22 GMC 1500, received a 26% increase (second lowest increase vehicle). It along with my 22 5BW have OnStar connection, but neither are enrolled in Smart Driver and never have been. Can’t wait to eventually get my LexisNexis report to see what has been reported…

I agree with what was mentioned earlier, we should receive a detailed insurance explanation of why any increase/changes instead of having to call and hope they tell you. Bastards!

Time for me to shop around for insurance and compare rates between carriers, again.

Because of a promotion at work, an increase in required travel and working my ass off, the 5BW stays garaged than driven. As much as I love this car, less than 1700 miles, I am considering getting rid of it and putting my cash else where and saving the annual insurance $$ as well.

I have been selling my non driven cars lately (Z06, ZL1 & Mustang) and freeing up space & cash. Not to mention, reducing insurance spend as well. Tired of the insurance crooks!

Regardless of whether insurance companies are using this information and from whatever the source, rates have been going up. Insurance cost of all types is out of control.

As sad as it is, it sounds like buying the car used is the best way to circumvent this bullshit.

It's like everyone is using the pandemic as an excuse to fuck the people

Looks like GM cancelled the safe driver program.
Jeezus... i leave for 6 months and the forum goes crazy! :) They might be saying they are cancelling the program, but as of today the option is still there (web and app).

I just got my latest State Farm bill for the next 6 months and it has gone up SUBSTANTIALLY. I have a feeling it's because of the brief time I was enrolled without my knowledge. This is such BS.
I need to apologize - my rates actually did NOT go up for this coming 6 month period. They went up last time and I just didn't even remember that huge increase last fall because I had a lot going on. Sorry.

Since I had my trunk opened up and given that I disabled the OnStars cellular link in my 21' Suburban, I decided to poke around in the CT5BW. The same LG Telematics module I have in my 21's Suburban is also in the 23' CT5BW, located in the trunk on the passenger side along the wheel well area under the rug.
I have a 2007 Z06 and originally disabled onstar by pulling all of the connectors except the high speed can bus connector -- removing that one bifurcates the bus and prevents the car from starting! Of course these days the gen 7.0 onstar module wouldn't be able to talk to any current cellular networks.

More recently I swapped the nav radio and onstar for the 2013 version to gain an AUX input and factory bluetooth. But for bluetooth to work the module needed to be powered (and the gen 9.2 onstar module would be able to phone home). So I opened it up and found that the cellular functions were on a daughter card and that I could remove the multi-pin board-to-board jumper to completely air gap the modem.

I did the same mod to my 2nd gen CTS-V.

I am very curious what the inside of the inside of the 86803964 onstar module looks like...

The newer LG modules have a similar layout; multimode daughter card covering both the GSM and CDMA freq bands.

Here’s some internal pics:

The issue I found is GM bound services to both data links. The purple plug appears to be the voice/data link for OnStar. Unplugging the purple effectively kills the service link. However, unplugging the brown link kills GPS as well as the loading of all embedded data resources like loading navigation map entities. The vehicle also gets its time sync via this link so there will be time stray if disabled.

Pulling the card would obviously kill both sets of services. At this points I do want to maintain GPS services.
