I've occasionally had difficulty going into 1st on some transmissions. Try going into 2nd first then right up into first, That often helps proper engagement for me.
I would NOT deviate from the pinch-weld jack point location. I don't know about these cars, but typically the area is reinforced near pinch-weld lift points. That's why there is a specific location.
I haven't yet but just started looking at Rigid bars as I'm considering it also. My plan will be to tie into high beams with a switch so they could be disabled.
My plan for next week is full nose, A pillars & leading edge of roof (I have sunroof), rockers, & full doors; my thought for the latter is to help with door ding protection. Won't prevent a dent but should help with scratches that go with the dent.
